In 2002, I retired as the Chief Financial Officer of the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo. Previously,
I spent 25 years at California State University, Hayward (now East Bay) as Budget Officer and eventually Chief Financial Officer.
I have served on several nonprofit boards of directors that managed various campus enterprises. I also served for several years as the Treasurer of the HOA for our housing development in Dublin. I am familiar with the financial concerns of a nonprofit corporation and believe this experience is directly related to the issues facing the Blue Lake Springs Mutual Water Company.
The water company needs to install meters as quickly and as practically as possible and the pricing system needs to be based on a financial structure that strongly encourages conservation. While the recent rains and snow have mitigated the severity of the drought, a long term plan of conservation is essential to ensuring that Blue Lake Springs will have an adequate supply of water to meet future needs.
